Library board approves ADA contact change and 48-hour accommodation guidance

The Monroe County Public Library Board of Trustees voted June 17 to approve updates to the library’s Americans with Disabilities Act notice and grievance process, including a change to the named ADA contact and guidance on when to request accommodations.
Josh Wolf presented the updates after staff ADA coordinator Chris Jackson asked to step back from that role so Jackson can focus on outreach services. Wolf said he will transition into the ADA coordinator duties and has begun site surveys and training. As part of the policy update, the library replaced Jackson’s contact information on the ADA notice with Wolf’s and revised the grievance procedure accordingly.
The board also incorporated a recommendation from legal counsel into the policy language: accommodation requests should be made as far in advance as possible and no later than 48 hours before a scheduled event. Wolf told trustees that while the policy sets the 48-hour latest guideline, staff will still “scramble” to help accommodate requests made on short notice.
A voice vote approved the described changes; the chair confirmed the outcome after one member called a nay. The updates were framed in the meeting as procedural and intended to ensure the library’s notices and grievance language reflected current staff assignments and legal guidance.
