Convention center nears exterior completion; College Avenue connector to close June 30–July 24

Andrew Sherry, project manager with Wed Brothers, told the board the new convention center is moving toward enclosure and interior‑finish work. "Supplemental steel for the partition walls will be completed at the end of June," Sherry said, noting slab‑on‑grade pours are finished and only a single elevated deck remains to be poured. He said curtain wall frames and glass are installed on the east and north elevations and that exterior column wraps, granite and limestone work are in progress on the east elevation.
Sherry outlined remaining exterior and interior tasks and a near‑term schedule target: "We will pour this [north mechanical room] deck by the end of June, which means 100% of elevated deck work will be complete," and electrical gear is expected to be brought into the building in early July. He described ongoing interior work—framing, drywall, MEP rough‑ins and fireproofing—and said the goal is temporary climate control to accelerate interior finishes.
The board heard that a College Avenue connector closure is scheduled from June 30 through July 24. Sherry said that closure will allow completion of the curtain wall systems, glass framing and metal panels, followed by roofing work and remaining facade tasks. "During that closure we maximize productivity," he said, adding that metal panels are staged and will be mobilized after preparatory work at the roadway edge.
The presentation included photos of the northwest corner, east elevation, and loading dock areas; Sherry reported perimeter canopies and curtain wall work will proceed to button up the building for summer installation tasks. The update also identified upcoming site work: sidewalk and curb prep, demolition on the east side, and masonry work near the loading dock and south entrance ramp.
Board members asked no substantive questions during the update. The board then moved on to committee reports and procurement items.
The CIB's next construction milestone will be completion of the connector closure scope in late July and delivery of electrical gear into the new building in early July.
