County reassessment shows $2.12 billion jump in taxable value — officials say impacts still unfolding

Real Property Tax Services Director Bill Fuller told the Ways & Means Committee on June 8 that the countywide revaluation produced a taxable-value change of $2,122,377,877, which he said "represents a 43.5% increase in taxable value" since the last town and county taxes were generated.

Fuller provided an overview of factors driving the increase and outlined next steps: tentative assessment rolls and village tax rates have been posted on the county website, printed tentative rolls were distributed to assessors and filed with town clerks on May 1, a Board of Assessment Review training occurred April 21, and an assessor meeting is scheduled for June 10. He said the office is working on final assessment rolls and the school assessment rolls.

Supervisor E. Gott expressed appreciation for Mr. Fuller’s assistance on a recent issue affecting a town and its attorney. The minutes record administrative and procedural follow-ups but do not include an estimate of how the revaluation will alter individual tax bills; the timing and final tax rate-setting steps remain the responsibility of towns and the county when rolls and budgets are finalized.

The committee heard these informational updates; no formal vote was required for the presentation. The assessor meeting and final-roll work are the next procedural steps.
