Beardstown council adopts ordinance to add one Class C liquor license after 5-3 vote

The Beardstown City Council adopted an ordinance on Aug. 6 increasing the number of Class C liquor licenses from ten to eleven and increasing the number of I-2 endorsements for those licenses from seven to eight. The motion, made by Alderperson Ron Culves and seconded by Alderperson Shawn Taylor, passed 5-3 on a roll call vote.
The ordinance drew a divided vote. Members voting in favor were Culves, Mary Davis, Eric Harbin, Dawn Seward and Taylor. Chris Baer, Lisa Buhlig and Keith Schramm voted no. The motion was recorded in the minutes as adopted; no public comments were recorded on the item.
The council took the action during its regular meeting at Beardstown City Hall. The ordinance text and any administrative rules for issuing the additional license and endorsements were recorded in the meeting packet attached to the minutes but were not read into the record during the session.
