The Mahomet‑Seymour school board on Monday approved a one‑year contract to hire Nicole Hill as dean of students at Middletown Prairie Elementary. Superintendent presenters said Hill is currently a special‑education teacher at Mahomet‑Seymour High School and filled a temporary dean role this spring while the incumbent was on maternity leave.
"We are excited to recommend Nicole Hill to fill the position as dean of students at Middletown Prairie Elementary," the superintendent said during the recommendation to the board. The motion to approve the contract passed on a roll‑call vote with all voting members recorded as yes.
Separately, the board discussed a proposal to add a bus mechanic position focused on light mechanical work and preventive maintenance to reduce outside repair costs. Dr. Kaylor described the role as intended for routine tasks — oil changes, fluid checks and daily bus inspections — not major engine or transmission overhauls. He said Midwest Transit and Mark Varner would assist with training and that Midwest Transit would pay the tuition for required training.
Administrators estimated potential annual savings of about $38,000 depending on the hire’s skill level and said the position would be a union role; the board asked for further analysis but did not take formal action.
