Broken Bow council OKs temporary closure of North 9th and North C for school construction

The City of Broken Bow Council voted unanimously on Aug. 1 to temporarily close the intersection of North 9th and North C Street to through traffic to protect the public and facilitate a school building project. The closure, approved in a motion by Councilmember Russ Smith and seconded by Councilmember Luke Wassom, may last no more than seven total days beginning Monday, Aug. 5 and must be completed no later than Monday, Aug. 19, 2024.
The council approved the measure on a roll-call vote with Councilmembers Russ Smith, Luke Wassom and Paul Holland voting aye and no nays. City officials said the intersection will be closed in all directions while construction activities at the adjacent school site are underway to reduce exposure to construction hazards and to allow crews to work safely.
The action was taken as new business during a special council meeting at the Broken Bow Municipal Auditorium. No public opposition or alternate traffic-control plan was recorded in the meeting minutes. The council took no separate vote on traffic detours or detailed signage; implementation details will be handled by city staff and contractors in coordination with the school building project timetable.
The council adjourned at 12:13 p.m.
