Oracle Elementary School District No.2 board accepts audit, ratifies personnel and affirms class sizes for 2025–26

The Governing Board of Oracle Elementary School District No.2 on Feb. 10 publicly accepted the district’s Single Audit Report, Uniform System of Financial Records Compliance Questionnaire and Annual Comprehensive Financial Report for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2024, and approved several routine motions including personnel ratifications and class-size settings for 2025–26.

Board President Edie Crall called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. at Mountain Vista K-8 School’s Growth Room and via Zoom. Vice President Jerri Taylor moved to approve the meeting agenda as amended; Member Wendy Odell seconded and the motion carried.

During the Call to the Public, Mt. Vista parent Mr. Bill Predgo addressed the board; Vice President Jerri Taylor asked Superintendent Mrs. Nehrmeyer to follow up with him after the meeting.

The board approved the consent agenda by unanimous vote. Items included ratification of payroll vouchers (V35 $68,017.85; V36 $85,911.44), expenditure vouchers (V2524 $22,124.21; V2525 $40,907.67), January 2025 account statements, an out-of-school suspension report, ratified school closures for Jan. 30, 2025, and gifts and donations: new trophy cases donated by the Oracle Schools Foundation and a $100 donation from Patrick Farrell to support students receiving free meals who wanted a second serving.

Pursuant to Arizona law (A.R.S. §15-914), Superintendent Mrs. Nehrmeyer presented the district’s audit and related financial reports; the board publicly accepted them by unanimous roll call.

The board recognized long-serving employee Ronda Waltermire as the district’s Exceptional Employee for February 2025, noting more than 30 years of service as a school bus driver, and named 8th grader Lilly Siegfried the Exceptional Student of the Month for February 2025 for her classroom work and athletic participation. Mrs. Nehrmeyer also recognized Verdean Smith, the district’s 7th–8th grade science teacher and science fair coordinator, and invited student presenters who took part in the district’s 22nd Annual Science Fair. Mrs. Smith told the board she was “positively overwhelmed” by the 164 projects and strong family turnout.

On operational items, Superintendent Mrs. Nehrmeyer presented survey feedback on proposed 2025–26 calendar options, including a variation with one early dismissal per month and parent-teacher conference scheduling; Member Wendy Odell suggested a version with two monthly early dismissals. Mrs. Nehrmeyer said she will gather more staff input and return with a final recommendation in March.

The board approved maintaining classroom sizes and open-enrollment capacities currently in place for 2024–25 for the 2025–26 school year; Member Wendy Odell moved the measure and Vice President Jerri Taylor seconded. The board also ratified several personnel actions, including staffing for Spring Extended School Day programming and a set of coaching appointments; the ratifications carried unanimously.

Superintendent Mrs. Nehrmeyer reviewed the board dashboard for February, reporting a slight decrease in enrollment and an attendance rate of 89% for January (up from 85% in December 2024). The board set future regular meetings for March 10 and April 14, 2025; the March agenda will include employment contracts and the adoption of a math curriculum.

The meeting adjourned at 7:12 p.m. after a motion by Member Wendy Odell and second by Vice President Jerri Taylor.
