Oracle Elementary reports weak math results for grades 3–8, sets 55% proficiency goal for 2027

Crystle Nehrmeyer, a district staff member, and Shannon Soulé, a district staff member, presented January 2025 benchmark results from Star Early Literacy, Star Reading and Star Math assessments to the Oracle Elementary School District No.2 Governing Board.
According to the presentation, Grades 3–8 showed '38.5% of students at or above grade level proficiency in the areas of reading and writing, and only 19% of students at or above grade level proficiency in the area of math.' The district set a goal that 55% of students be at or above grade level proficiency in reading, writing and math by May 2027.
The presenters also reported that Grades K–2 show 61% of students at or above grade level proficiency in reading and writing; Grade 2 shows 65% at or above grade level proficiency in math. The presentation noted that Grades K–1 do not take a specific math benchmark assessment.
Board members remarked that the math proficiency figures are 'especially concerning' (as recorded in the minutes).
