Commission approves bleacher pad and trail connection at Hagstrom-King Park

Commissioners asked about impacts to Mendota Heights Road, possible alternate connection points and crosswalk placement. Ritchie explained why the proposed placement was chosen to provide better connectivity and described resident engagement that staff conducted with nearby neighbors. Chair Jaffrey Blanks said the placement represented the most cost-efficient option discussed to date.
Commissioner Michelle Muller asked that a trash receptacle be added and suggested two possible locations; Parks and Recreation/Assistant Public Works Director Meredith Lawrence said staff would review trash placement following project completion. After discussion, the commission approved inclusion of the bleacher pad and trail connection at Hagstrom-King Park (Motion Muller/second Ramirez, AYES 6: NAYS 0).
Funding for the concrete pad and trail connection will come from the Special Parks Fund, and the city will package the work for bidding as part of the street rehabilitation project. The commission did not vote on a specific bleacher vendor or the locations of trash receptacles; staff will return with placement details as the project advances.
