Plainfield board approves vehicle pursuit, property-room relocation and fitness policies

Secretary Joy Philip moved to approve the three policies and Commissioner Fish seconded; President Steve Stombaugh called for a vote and the board responded "all ayes." The motion passed without recorded dissent.
Commissioner Fish asked whether recent language changes would make pursuits so difficult officers would avoid them. He asked, "are they trying to make chases so difficult that they won't do them?" Chief Prewitt said the updates are mostly editorial changes from Lexipol intended to keep the policy current and "really doesn't restrict our ability to do so." He added, "if we ever get told we're not chasing criminals who flee from us, they're going to have to find a new chief of police because I 100% don't support that," while also stressing that pursuits must be undertaken "the right way." The chief's remarks framed the board's understanding that operational discretion remains with department leadership.
The board did not record amendments to the policies at the meeting and did not request further study; the approved motion covered all three policies in a single vote.
