City Council Sends No Name Pond Overlay Back to Planning Board With MDEP-Buffer Language; Public Hearing Set for June 22

The Lewiston Planning Board was informed that the City Council revised and returned language for the No Name Pond overlay. Chair Shanna Cox said council provided alternative language and staff offered to email the exact redline comparing what the board had recommended and what council sent back. Staff described the edit as the addition of a seventh section rather than changes in the overlay chart; members asked to receive both the amended text and the board’s original recommendation for comparison prior to the June 22 hearing.
Board members asked whether a family wishing to begin construction is still able to break ground while the language is being revised; staff said they did not have an update on that specific construction timeline and would follow up.
The board scheduled a public hearing for its June 22 meeting to consider the council’s revisions, and staff committed to distributing the redline and the prior recommendation to aid board review.
