Commissioners agreed that removing redundant checkboxes would reduce confusion, but flagged that a formal regulation change will require a public hearing and the town’s regulatory process.
The group also debated the agent-authorization sentence on the form. Commissioners proposed simplifying the language to read along the lines of, "I authorize my agent to act on my behalf in making this request for exemption," and to ensure signature blocks accommodate owner-only or owner-plus-agent use. Staff noted minor editorial fixes are needed elsewhere (capitalization, titles) and that enforcement/record-keeping language should allow either the building official or zoning official to act if one is unavailable.
Finally, members discussed removing parenthetical examples ("erection, demolition, removal") from the form because the examples could be read to widen the scope of the exemption; some members cited past cases where emergency removal of unsafe elements had been processed administratively.
Votes at a glance: The only formal roll-call action taken during the meeting was approval of the May 19 minutes (motion moved and seconded; outcome: approved with one abstention by Don). No regulatory amendments were adopted at this meeting.
