Buckeye Union Board appoints Joel Dameral interim principal at William Brooks Elementary

The Buckeye Union School District Board of Trustees on July 7 unanimously approved the appointment of Joel Dameral as interim principal of William Brooks Elementary School for the 2025–26 school year.
Superintendent David Roth, Ph.D., told the board that Dameral was selected after an extensive search that, because it occurred late in the hiring cycle, produced an applicant pool the district judged did not fully match the desired qualities and experience. Roth said the interim appointment will allow the district to provide stable leadership at Brooks while reposting the permanent principal position during the district’s typical hiring period in February.
Joel Dameral introduced himself to the board and described his background as a lifelong resident of South Lake Tahoe with 31 years in education, including 18 years teaching at South Tahoe High School and 13 years as principal of the Lake Tahoe Environmental Science Magnet School/Myers Elementary. He said a recent move to Lincoln made the interim position possible and expressed enthusiasm about working with Brooks staff and families.
Board President Brenda Hanson-Smith presided over the brief special meeting. Board Member Jon Yoffie moved to approve the appointment; Board Member Melissa Keyzer seconded. The motion carried by a 3-0 vote with Board Members Scott Masten, Ph.D., and Kirk Seal absent. The board recorded no public comments on the item.
The board noted its next regular meeting is scheduled for Aug. 20, 2025; the special meeting adjourned at 6:08 p.m.
