Parade organizers granted temporary use of county parking lots for July 4 staging

Patricia Kendall, co‑chair of the Aberdeen America 250 committee, requested permission to use the county’s newly acquired parking lot (formerly Great Lakes) and other nearby lots for July 4 parade float staging.
Kendall said the route will remain downtown, running south of the railroad tracks and north of Highway 12, beginning at the BNSF lot and proceeding down Main Street before ending near First Street. She told the commission the veterans will hold a pancake feed at 7:00 a.m., the parade will start at 10:00 a.m. and organizers expect to conclude by about 11:00 a.m. She reported about 30 spaces were already reserved and outlined arrangements to include veterans, a color guard, public safety participation and a band.
Commissioners indicated approval for temporary staging use of the county lot and asked organizers to coordinate with police and with the owners/operators of other staging lots (BNSF, Zumbrota). No county conditions beyond coordination and confirmation were recorded in the minutes.
Organizers will finalize staging logistics with county staff and local law enforcement ahead of the July 4 event.
