Dalton council adopts amusements ordinance limiting machines to six per location

Jonathan presented an update to chapter 10 of the city code to align local amusement-machine rules with state code. The ordinance adds a licensing requirement and sets a six-machine limit per location. When a council member asked whether existing locations would be grandfathered, staff replied there is no grandfathering and existing machines beyond the limit would need to be removed.
Staff noted the area of law is largely preempted by state statute, but the city may set a limit up to six machines under state allowance. The council moved, seconded and approved the ordinance on second reading.
The ordinance will require licensing and code‑enforcement action to ensure compliance at affected businesses.
