The board approved the fire chief’s and ambulance director’s recommendation to hire Todd Martin as an EMT and as a firefighter; Martin introduced himself in the meeting, described a long history as an EMT and said he teaches in the local schools. The motion to hire Martin was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote.
The board authorized the fire department to pursue a roughly $10,000 Good Neighbor firefighter safety equipment grant with no match requirement and asked staff to request a detailed equipment list from the grant preparer before final acceptance.
Personnel and administrative votes included authorization to payout 145 hours of accrued vacation to departing deputy clerk Phil Barl; members said the payout recognized his years of service. The board also agreed that an ambulance windshield repair cost fell below the insurance deductible and no insurance claim would be filed.
The board accepted two donations: $100 from Sandra Williams for the Thomaston Village Cemetery account and $100 from the Spruce Head Fishermen’s Co‑op for the South Thomaston Library; motions to accept were approved by voice vote.
On tax‑acquired properties, the board discussed another parcel (Francis Walsh, Six Field Street) and moved to proceed with sale advertising and to pin a last‑opportunity notice on the door; staff noted the need to document the sale process and to attempt to contact the owner before advertising.
The meeting concluded with scheduling reminders (June 10 polling and June 17 annual town meeting), acceptance of monthly department reports, and a vote to enter an executive session on a personnel matter. The board said no action was anticipated following the executive session.
