Richmond Community Schools honors teachers, support staff and student athletes

The Richmond Community Schools board opened its June 17 meeting by honoring the district’s Celebration of Excellence award winners and student-athletes.
Bridget Hazelbaker, director of communications and student support services, introduced Lori Dworth as the district’s 2026 Teacher of the Year; Dworth teaches a range of math courses at Richmond High School and will advance to the state-level Teacher of the Year process. Hazelbaker also recognized elementary teacher Kelly Stump of Westview Elementary, the Stam Kosine Family Foundation (represented by Monica Kosine and Allison Clark) as Friend of Education, administrator Stephanie Hooper, and Reva Hartman as Support Person of the Year at TES.
Board members then recognized student athletes. Kale Newton, a junior distance runner, and Jacob Lindall, who placed ninth in the state shot put (54 feet, 9.25 inches), were applauded for state qualifications. The board also celebrated the Richmond Red Devils baseball team for capturing a sectional title — the first in roughly 15 years — and invited players and coaches to discuss the season and upcoming camps.
President Brian and other trustees thanked families, coaches and community businesses that sponsor extracurricular activities, and the district noted upcoming band appearances at Centerville and other competitions, plus a community ice-cream social on Aug. 2.
The board adjourned the recognition portion and proceeded with the regular agenda.
