The Lyons City Council on June 8 approved several community-services items tied to upcoming summer events and park improvements.
Council authorized Music Ambassadors to sell fireworks from a portable stand on the vacant lot south of the grocery store from June 25 through July 4 (motion by Tyler Vacha, seconded by Jay Maddox; carried 3–0). Later in the meeting the council approved the purchase of fireworks in the amount of $5,292.39; minutes note the Lyons Community Club will pay the remaining $5,000 of the invoice.
Public-works and parks updates show the new playground was installed June 6; concrete footings were poured and mulch delivery was expected the week of the meeting. The council approved a $7,641 bid from Boden Construction to install a concrete sidewalk connecting the pavilion and playground (motion by Carr, seconded by Vacha; carried 3–0). Clerk Whitney Anderson said she would order two portable toilets for the July 4 holiday and proceed with ordering two budgeted benches for the playground.
