Crawford council approves application for $30,000 USDA water engineering grant

The Crawford City Council voted unanimously Nov. 24 to apply for a $30,000 USDA Rural Development SEARCH Program grant to pay for a preliminary engineering review of the city’s water system.
Council Member Christopher Dean moved to approve Resolution 2025-15; the motion, seconded by Dianne Gaston, passed with votes from Dean, Gaston and Patti Page. Dean said the study, if the grant is awarded, “would be zero cost to the city.” The preliminary engineering review is intended to identify needed improvements and to support applications for funding for construction work.
Mayor April Grant opened and closed the public hearing on the application; no public comments were offered during the hearing, which ran from 6:07 p.m. to 6:08 p.m. If funded, the city expects engineers to assess distribution, treatment and other infrastructure and produce recommendations the council can use to seek further grants or low-interest loans.
The council did not commit city matching funds at the meeting; next steps are administrative — submitting the grant application and awaiting USDA warding decisions. The resolution authorizes the application only; any subsequent construction or funding decisions would return to the council for approval.
