Council authorizes maintenance plan for city-owned Tourist Cabin, committee to secure funding

The Crawford City Council on Sept. 9 authorized maintenance on the city-owned Tourist Cabin after a presentation from Roger Campbell outlining repair needs and a plan to pursue outside funding.
Campbell described the building’s history and said a contractor experienced with Fort Robinson repairs recommended replacing squared logs around the base, re-chinking, sandblasting, staining and installing new windows. The cabin is city-owned but staffed by the Chamber of Commerce under a Dawes County Tourism grant; Campbell said the committee will notify the city at each step if outside funding is secured and work moves forward.
Council Member Christopher Dean moved to approve allowing the maintenance to proceed, Patti Page seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
The council’s approval authorizes the committee to seek funding and begin planning but does not commit city capital dollars at this time; the committee will provide updates to the city during the project.
