The California State Assembly paused floor business on May 7 to recognize Captain Victor J. Glover Jr., pilot of NASA's Artemis II mission.
Assemblymember Brian introduced Glover and described his career: Navy test pilot, multiple master—s degrees, more than 4,000 flight hours, carrier landings and combat missions, and selection as an astronaut. Brian said the Artemis II crew traveled "252,000 miles out, farther from Earth than any human being has ever traveled," and called Glover "brilliant, brave, and very much black." Assemblymember Rodriguez added that Glover's Pomona background makes him a personal and local inspiration and praised his service to the nation and to science.
Members were invited to join Captain Glover for a photograph at the front of the chamber; the Assembly briefly paused for photos and greetings before resuming business.
