Franklin board approves park permit for Wild Geese Bookshop, hears strong revenues and raises veteran-decoration questions

At its June 18 meeting the Franklin City Park Board approved a request from Wild Geese Bookshop to use Youngs Creek Park for a free "summer camp for grown-ups" the week of July 13–17 and a July 17 event. The request was moved, seconded and approved by roll call with all in favor.
The board also handled routine business: it approved the May 21 meeting minutes, approved June claims and approved the human-resources report after staff said seasonal hiring is underway.
In the financial report staff said athletic and recreation fund revenues are about $150,000 ahead of last year. Staff attributed the overall gain in part to a shift in customer behavior after the city began charging nonresident fees Jan. 1: pool-pass sales are down, but daily admissions and concession sales are up, leaving aquatic revenues about $90,000 ahead of last year.
Board members asked about cemetery operations and whether there is a working list of veterans buried in city cemeteries; members said some veteran graves appeared not to have been decorated for Memorial Day and asked staff to explore outreach or assistance options to restore participation.
A motion to adjourn passed at the end of the meeting.
