The Ascension Parish Council approved condemnation proceedings for a Donaldsonville property and granted a 60-day extension to the owner of a Darrow property in lieu of immediate condemnation, council records show.
Patrice Johnson, chief code enforcement officer, presented the case for 35158 Carol Street in Donaldsonville and told the council she had been in constant contact with the property owner, who had signed a letter of no objection. Council members moved to approve the condemnation as presented and there were no objections.
Johnson also presented a second condemnation for a structure at 39055 Highway 22 in Darrow. The property owner, who was present, told the council he had been maintaining grass and removing debris and disputed receiving notice of required repairs. "I am against y'all condemning the building that's on my property," the owner said during remarks to the council.
Council members reviewed the case history, which Johnson said originated from a citizen service center complaint in 2024, and discussed required corrective actions: boarding the structure, securing it against entry, and presenting a plan for the property's future. A council member moved to give the owner a 60-day extension to board and secure the structure and return with proof of progress; that motion was seconded and carried with no recorded objections.
Council directed the owner to coordinate with code enforcement staff to confirm the boarding standards and to return to the council if remediation did not meet the requirements within the 60-day period.
