Council Member Christopher Dean read the city's well ordinance language and said the ordinance allows a property owner to drill a well so long as the city water supervisor, Dennis Krotz, approves it and the work is done by a licensed well driller. Council set the Jan. 13 hearing after the Planning Commission required a 10‑foot setback for the 613 Oak Street building site.
On related permits, the council approved removal of the trailer at 618 Pine Street and approved the building permit for 613 Oak Street conditioned on the Planning Commission’s 10‑foot setback requirement. The motions to set the hearing and to approve the two permit actions were moved by Council Member Christopher Dean and seconded by Council Member Dianne Gaston; Dean, Gaston and Patti Page voted AYE.
Mayor April Grant and Planning Commission representatives were present for the discussion. The council did not take additional action on well‑drilling beyond confirming that city utility approval and a licensed driller are required under existing ordinance language. The hearing will provide a formal opportunity for neighbors and other interested parties to comment before the council considers any conditional‑use approval.
