Crawford sets 2025-26 tax rate at $0.429574 per $100, adopts budget and approves 1% restricted-funds increase

The Crawford City Council adopted its fiscal year 2025-26 budget on Sept. 23 and set the final tax rate at 0.429574 per $100 of assessed value, the council announced after a brief hearing.
Council Member Christopher Dean moved to approve Resolution 2025-11 to set the final tax request; Patti Page seconded the motion and the resolution passed unanimously (AYE: Dean, Page, Gaston). Attorney Edmunds explained how the tax rate is assessed against property values during the hearing, which the mayor opened at 6:20 p.m. and closed at 6:23 p.m.
Council also approved an additional 1% increase in restricted funds authority for FY2025-26. Council Member Patti Page moved to approve the increase by title and to suspend the rule of three readings; the motion was seconded by Dianne Gaston and carried on a unanimous vote. The council then voted to pass and publish the enabling ordinance.
Ordinance No. 700, adopting the FY2025-26 budget, passed on a motion by Council Member Dean, seconded by Page, with all members voting AYE. City Clerk Teri Miller presented the Treasurer's Report, noting auditor adjustments; Dean moved to accept the report and Page seconded, and the council approved it unanimously.
During public comment, Barb Moody asked how the adopted budget will affect the Crawford Museum, the planned use of RSVP space and whether the museum's insurance had been checked; Mayor April Grant suggested Ms. Moody meet with the mayor and request a spot on a future agenda. Another resident raised concerns about rising taxes, the library's future and the nonfunctioning pool.
The council approved bills and requisitions before adjourning at 6:48 p.m. The budget ordinance and the tax-setting resolution take effect per the city's publication and statutory schedule; no further deadlines were announced at the meeting.
