Council accepts disaster-debris and park projects, approves bridge change order and hires demographer for reapportionment

The St. Martin Parish Council on March 2 adopted a series of measures related to capital projects, contract acceptance, and redistricting work.
The Council adopted Resolution No. 21-020-RS accepting work by Ceres Environmental Services, Inc., for pre-positioned disaster debris removal following Hurricanes Delta and Laura and authorized the Parish President to execute a Notice of Acceptance for recording in parish conveyance records.
For the Cade Park Cabana and Beach Volleyball Project, the Council approved Change Order No. 3 granting a 35-day contract-time extension to JC Construction, L.L.C. and adopted a resolution authorizing the Parish President to execute a Certificate of Substantial Completion accepting the work. A public notice of acceptance was read advising subcontractors to assert claims within 45 days of registration.
The Council also approved Change Order No. 1 for the Poche Road Bridge Repairs Project, increasing the contract by $19,500 to M. Matt Durand, L.L.C.
On redistricting, the Council adopted Resolution No. 21-021-RS to retain Geographic Planning and Demographic Services, LLC, represented by Chief Demographer Michael Hefner, to complete the 2020 Voting Districts Reapportionment Plan and obtain pre-clearance from the U.S. Department of Justice under the Voting Rights Act of 1965. The Council recorded unanimous votes on these measures.
Parish President Chester Cedars also noted that an Economic Development Administration grant awarded to LUS Fiber will bring broadband to the Highway 90 corridor and the SMEDA Park.
