The St. Martin Parish Council on March 2 unanimously adopted Resolution No. 21-019-RS appointing Brooke Gillespie as Clerk of the Council, effective immediately upon the vacation of the office by Laci Laperouse. The council recorded the motion by Chairman Chris Tauzin and seconded by Dean LeBlanc; Vincent Alexander was absent at the time of the vote.
The resolution fixed Gillespie’s salary at Range 18, Step 9 and directs that the salary be formally set by ordinance as required by Section 2-10(C) of the St. Martin Parish Home Rule Charter. An ordinance (Summary No. 1315-OR) confirming Gillespie’s employment and setting the salary was introduced for publication during the same meeting.
Chairman Chris Tauzin presented a plaque to outgoing Clerk Laci Laperouse, who has served as council clerk for eleven years and has been named Executive Director of Tourism for St. Martin Parish. Laperouse thanked council members, family, and colleagues and expressed appreciation to Parish President Chester Cedars for the new appointment. Former council members Lisa Nelson and Jason Willis joined council members in thanking Laperouse.
The council approved the clerk appointment during its regular meeting at the St. Martin Parish Annex Building. No public comment was recorded on the appointment.
