The Belvidere City Council voted unanimously June 15 to adopt Ordinance 766H, authorizing an intergovernmental agreement that transfers the city’s “Santa Claus House” display to the Belvidere Township Park District for placement at Dodie Park.
Mayor Peterson recounted the structure’s origin as an Eagle Scout project by Charlie Beckl and said the display has become difficult for the city to move and store between events. "This was his Eagle Scout project," the mayor said, adding that the park district has agreed to pour a concrete slab and provide electrical service so the display can remain at Dodie Park and be used for community events such as the Christmas walk.
Council members said the transfer would simplify event logistics and reduce the need to truck the display to and from storage. Alderman Stevens moved the ordinance on second reading; Alderwoman Gracowski seconded. The clerk recorded a 10–0 roll-call vote in favor and the ordinance passed.
Next steps: the intergovernmental agreement will be finalized with the park district and staff will coordinate site preparation at Dodie Park.
