The Sahuarita Unified District board approved adoption of two Advanced Placement textbooks after staff confirmed the adoption process met district and AP/College Board alignment criteria and completed the required public-review window.
Brett Bonner summarized the process: the district displayed the proposed AP titles publicly, solicited online review and in-person comments, and reached out to stakeholders. Staff reported no online comments and three favorable in-person comments during the public display period. The textbooks—History of Western Society (AP European History) and an AP Environmental Science title—were recommended by AP teachers as replacements for outdated materials. The district has budgeted funds to purchase the physical textbooks beginning July 1 with an expected arrival by August 5.
Board members asked about e-book availability; staff said the purchase is for physical textbooks and license-based ebook options would be a separate ongoing cost.
The board moved, seconded and approved the textbook adoptions by voice vote.
