Centennial board welcomes new assistant principal and recognizes spring athletes
Summary
Superintendent Collins introduced Emily Rios as Centennial High School’s incoming assistant principal (effective July 1, 2026). The board also read a Pride Month proclamation and recognized spring sports teams and individual athletes for academic and competitive honors.
At the June 17 meeting, Superintendent Collins introduced Emily Rios, who has more than 16 years of experience in education and will begin as assistant principal at Centennial High School on July 1, 2026. Collins described Rios as bilingual (English and Spanish) with experience in instructional leadership, special education supports and school safety work; Rios thanked the board and said the district felt like a good fit after visiting campus and participating in graduation activities.
The board opened the meeting by reading a Pride Month proclamation recognizing June 1–30, 2026 as Pride Month and reaffirming district policy that prohibits discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity and other protected classes. The proclamation referenced Stonewall and cited research that affirming school environments improve mental health and engagement for LGBTQ+ students.
Athletic director Dante Gouch and other staff presented recognition of spring sports. Gouch cited team GPAs and named athletes who earned all-conference or state honors across baseball, tennis, track and field, softball and other sports; staff and board members invited families and athletes to receive certificates and photos.
The board paused business briefly to allow certificates and photographs for recognized athletes before resuming regular business.
