The Centennial School District Board of Directors voted June 17 to adopt a $177,513,722 budget for fiscal year 2026–27, approving a general fund of $104,856,962 and a permanent tax rate of $4.7448 per $1,000 of assessed value.
Paul Sutherton, the district’s chief financial officer and director of operations, told the board the adopted budget reflects two late, finalized financial changes — a lease-purchase for copier replacements (net increase of $7,381) and a $2,000 adjustment tied to a partial refunding of general-obligation bonds — producing a roughly $9,400 net change to the previously approved figures. Sutherton said the closing forecast leaves an ending fund balance of about $16,366,593 on June 30, 2027, assuming the district proceeds as budgeted.
Sutherton said the adopted plan preserves current services and investments the board prioritized, including mental-health supports, learning specialists, co‑curricular activities and career-technical programs. He also said the budget includes a planned spend-down of fund balance, forecasting "up to a $3.5 million budget deficit" in order to cover contingency and planned uses; he noted the actual spend may be lower depending on future actions.
Board members asked questions and acknowledged the budget committee’s work. Director Harden thanked the budget committee and said members asked “more than 50” questions during review; several directors expressed appreciation for the staff and committee work that informed the proposal.
A director moved to adopt the resolution as presented in the board book, the motion was seconded, and the board approved the adoption by voice vote. The resolution filed with the district administration office lists the appropriation amounts and the levy of $4,727,138 for debt service.
Next steps: the adopted budget and the resolution are now part of the permanent record at the Centennial district office and the board proceeded to recess for an executive session.
