Schools and honorees included Adeline Lopez, Luis Martinez, Gabriella Wiggins, Remy Martson, Ariana Martinez, Marco Enriquez, Jose Ortiz, Baleria Cikos Chavez, Jace Hinkle, Salvador (last name not specified) and Charlotte Brittain (SDPA). Officials noted Freeport Macaran and local press would publicize the honorees.
Superintendentreport: Superintendent Dr. Manuel Valenzuela highlighted student admissions to the University of Arizona from Sahuarita High School and recapped the Saita Raider competition, naming individual champions and praising student leadership.
Public comment: Parent IET Sereno thanked the district for notifications about recent safety incidents and for teacher efforts. Sereno asked about district plans to provide clear backpacks for families who cannot afford them, pursue grants or install metal detectors, and to consider hiring dedicated security staff so teachers are not tasked with security screening. "Does the district have any plans on providing a clear backpack for the rest of the students that cannot purchase one and are you going to put in or get a grant for metal detectors?" the commenter asked.
Board members did not take action on security at the meeting but the comment was entered into the public record under the call-to-public item.
