Lazette (district staff) explained that the NSLP option ties to families’ existing applications and that students participating in 21st Century after‑school programs will receive a free snack; when the NSLP does not cover a snack, the 21st Century grant can pay the difference.
"It just allows us to be able to provide after school snacks," Lazette said, noting the program will simplify snack provision and remove a separate application requirement for families.
Board members encouraged parents to complete online NSLP applications where appropriate and voted to approve the NSLP after‑school snack prices and program as presented.
The board approved the program by voice vote; staff will implement the NSLP snack option for eligible after‑school programs and communicate application instructions to families.
