Board supports ASBA bylaw updates and pauses final vote on 2026–27 calendar; SDPA graduation option proposed

The Sahuarita Unified School District governing board voted to support updates to the Arizona School Boards Association bylaws and authorized the board president to cast the district's vote on the association ballot. Dr. John Sparks, who serves on ASBA's executive board, described the changes as modernizing and clarifying governance roles and meeting procedures.
"The changes are primarily focused on clarifying roles, expectations and how to structure the association as a whole," Sparks said, urging members to read the revisions and support them. A motion to authorize the board president to cast the district's ASBA vote passed by voice vote.
Separately, staff presented a draft 2026–27 school calendar. The proposed calendar complies with the state requirement for 180 instructional days and reflects survey feedback moving fall parent-teacher conferences to Sept. 10–11 and spring conferences to Feb. 11–12. Staff also presented a request from Sarita Digital Pathways Academy (SDPA) to schedule a separate graduation ceremony in 2026–27; no change will occur in the current school year. The board tabled final calendar approval and will collect public feedback via an online link; the calendar will return for final consideration in November.
The meeting also included routine approvals: minutes, vouchers, and a consent agenda were adopted during the session.
