District staff described a cooperative land donation that resolved a siting constraint for new tennis courts at Walden Grove High School. Assistant Superintendent Brett Bonner told the board that when construction required relocation of four tennis courts the district sought additional surface area to build a six‑court complex (two courts with pickleball lines). The staff presentation said the School Facilities Board contributed $96,000 toward moving courts and that district bond funding of $699,000 was applied to expand the project to a roughly $1.6 million construction scope.
Brett Bonner said Arizona Electric Power Cooperative (AEPC) agreed to donate the needed parcel and absorbed related legal and recording costs; the district recorded the donation Dec. 19, 2024. Bonner thanked Teresa Murphy (Land Services Administrator) and Michelle (Executive Director of Regulatory Affairs and Corporate Services) for AEPC’s coordination and said the cooperative also covered attorney and recording fees, easing district expenses.
The district plans a ribbon-cutting and invited AEPC representatives to return for celebration when the courts are finished. Bonner said construction was likely to begin in the coming weeks.
