Galt district adopts Full Option Science System (NGSS) for K–8 after one‑year pilot

The board approved district adoption of the Full Option Science System (FOSS) Next Generation curriculum for kindergarten through eighth grade following a year‑long pilot and a TIMA evaluation.
District staff said a committee of K–8 educators completed California Next Generation Science Standards instructional materials evaluations, piloted the top candidates and reached a clear consensus recommending FOSS. Staff praised pilot teachers for the time and effort required to run an expedited pilot and noted this adoption was completed in one year rather than the typical two. Trustees moved and unanimously approved adoption (item 242.735).
The curriculum adoption will be incorporated into site instructional planning; staff indicated social studies will be the next curriculum area under review. The board thanked curriculum staff and pilot teachers for their work.
