Interim City Manager Heather Garner presented a proposal to amend the Giddings Police Department Step Pay Scale at the Feb. 23 meeting. The restructuring is intended to increase base pay to improve recruitment and retention and to introduce a corporal position.
The proposed scale would provide annual increases tied to years of service, with prior experience obtained outside the Giddings Police Department capped at seven years. Two starting-salary options were presented: $58,000 or $60,000. Garner recommended adopting the $58,000 starting salary effective April 1 to align with current budget capacity; the $60,000 option could be reconsidered during the next budget cycle. No motion was taken and council directed staff to bring the item back for future consideration.
The minutes record the proposal and staff’s recommendation but do not include a vote or final adoption; council members asked for additional review before any change is implemented.
