Board outlines ARPA-backed lot upgrades and GILCA transition to Fonner Park ahead of fair

Tina Thuernagle, Operations Director, told the Nebraska State Fair Board on May 15 that ARPA‑funded projects continue across the grounds and that parking lot improvements are progressing with most work expected to finish before the State Fair. Thuernagle said projects on the east side of campus will continue after the Aksarben Stock Show and that ARPA reimbursements and invoices must be submitted before the program closes on December 31, 2026.
Tom Schellpeper, Vice Chair, deferred facilities reporting to Thuernagle, who described operational work including fuel logistics, temporary fence layouts and new long‑horn exhibit staging, and thanked staff members for their ongoing efforts. Thuernagle also reported that the Grand Island Livestock Complex Authority (GILCA) will transition into Grand Island Expo Livestock and Events, to be run by Fonner Park, and that State Fair staff are assisting Fonner personnel with stock‑show processes during the transition.
Thuernagle closed by thanking specific operations staff and colleagues across departments for their contributions and saying operations "looks forward to making 'It All Happen Here.'"
