Strong ticket sales prompt State Fair to allow earlier national concert bookings
Summary
After selling roughly 2,000 tickets per concert and 10,000 across four shows, the board approved staff authority to explore booking national concert acts 18 months to two years ahead, subject to final approval of the 2027 National Stage budget in October 2026.

The Nebraska State Fair’s concert rollout has outpaced recent years, prompting the board to approve a staff-led strategy to secure future national acts earlier.
Events Director Karli Bartz told the board the fair has sold about 2,000 tickets for each concert so far and roughly 10,000 tickets across four shows; one show, featuring Phil Wickham, was about 70 tickets away from selling out. Bartz said staff have received positive online feedback from the five-week announcement strategy and credited box-office staff for strong sales.
Dawn Caldwell moved and Lanna Hubbard seconded a motion to allow staff and the booking agent to explore and tentatively book national acts 18 months to two years ahead of the fair, with any final commitments contingent on board approval of the 2027 National Stage budget in October 2026. The motion passed unanimously.
Marketing Director Courtney Glock said the department will reallocate some advertising dollars from shows that are near sold-out to underperforming dates and warned the public to buy tickets only at statefair.org or etix.com to avoid third‑party reseller scams.
Board members said the earlier-booking approach is intended to help secure higher-profile acts while preserving final fiscal oversight through the October budget process.
