Staff and board members used the meeting to review operations and summer programming and listed a string of maintenance and capital priorities.
Crystal reported that the central tennis-court resurfacing contract was awarded to Tennis Courts Unlimited, new windscreens were installed at the Liberty pickleball courts, concessions prepaid cards were launched at Taha, and additional bleachers were added to North Pine. She also introduced Dustin Schlloy as the new park supervisor.
Dustin described recent maintenance after vandalism to restrooms at Sky View and Johnson Park, repainting completed before the Big Bang Boom event, repairs to a press-box window pane, and imminent installation of a command center shelter and a drinking fountain at Sky View (donated by contractors and organizations).
PJ from recreation outlined summer and fall programs: a Heroes game on Sept. 12, Freedom Fest, a mini-pitch installation at Liberty this fall, new pickleball programming starting in July and a youth Forkball program beginning July 7 for kindergarten through fifth grade.
Staff also summarized an ongoing tree-planting program tied to an Inflation Reduction Act grant: recent phases added hundreds of trees along major corridors and in parks, and future phases will extend plantings across neighborhood parks. Staff said the city will host the Nebraska Parks and Recreation Association conference Sept. 15–17, with Divots as a venue and sponsorships already secured.
Board members pressed staff on infrastructure costs for a previously budgeted northwest restroom; staff said bringing sewer and other infrastructure to that location pushed estimated total costs much higher than the original $150,000 allocation and that alternatives (campground expansion, phased funding) are being evaluated. Staff committed to follow up on downtown decorative lighting activation and power issues.
