The presenter described the full-lake installation as roughly a $520,000 project if completed around the entire lake.
The presenter said the lights are standalone solar units with app-based controls, scheduling and an estimated battery life vendors describe as about 8–12 years. "We have $70,000 and the full completed project is $520,000," the presenter said, and added that the initial purchase could be installed in about six weeks once approved. Staff emphasized the choice of solar to avoid lengthy electrical infrastructure work and to reduce up-front design costs.
Members asked about warranty and longevity, the difference between solar and conventional installations, and the logic for starting with the darker section of the park near the stage and playground. The presenter said the pilot targets the darkest, highest-traffic section and that the city will continue pursuing donations and grants to expand the project.
A motion to approve the concept for council consideration was moved, seconded and passed by voice vote.
