Village water report flags Well 9 for priority rehabilitation

Public-works staff and a consultant presented the village’s annual well preventative-maintenance testing report on June 16 and highlighted Well 9 as a priority for scheduled rehabilitation.
Brad Merkel presented the report and noted that, although most wells are performing within expected bands, Well 9 shows a decline in mag/ohm readings over recent testing periods and has not been rehabilitated since its installation in 2005. The consultant explained that falling mag readings can indicate issues with the power cable or the motor and that inspection is required to determine the cause. Merkel said the pump itself remains on the design curve, which gives staff more confidence in budgeting repair estimates, and recommended scheduling Well 9 for rehab.
Merkel and the consultant reviewed other wells: Well 5 (last rehab 1992) and Well 7 (last rehab 2016) are emergency wells with acceptable performance but are on a maintenance cadence; Well 8's last rehab was 2013; Well 10 was rehabbed in 2021 and is in good condition; Well 11 was recently installed/rehabbed in 2025. Merkel emphasized rotation schedules to reduce run time and noted the village will include rehabilitation and inspection estimates in upcoming capital budgeting.
Why it matters: scheduling and funding rehab for aging wells affects reliability of supply and helps avoid emergency failures. Staff will provide cost estimates and schedule rehab work subject to budget approval.
