At its June 16 meeting the San Antonio Zoning Commission made several recommendations to city council:
- Consent agenda: Commissioners approved a combined consent package covering agenda items 7, 10, 11, 13, 14, 15, 17, 18 and 19; the approval advances those items toward city council (motion moved by Comisionado Higüey, seconded by Comisionada Pana).
- Postponement: Item 16 was postponed to July 21, 2026 after a motion by Commissioner Kialem and second by Commissioner Witsap.
- Item 8 (17607 Blanco Road): The commission recommended approval of a C2-S rezoning to allow an express car wash, with staff‑requested conditions including enhanced water recapture (80%) and noise‑mitigation measures; vote 6–5.
- Item 6 (Northeastwood truck‑repair site): The commission recommended approval of a conditional‑use and site‑plan amendment to expand covered repair space, with conditions for buffering and ingress/egress controls.
- Item 4 (Jones Matzelberg auto repair / paint booth): The commission recommended denial of a request to allow an auto‑body/paint operation because of concerns about prior intermittent paint‑booth activity and unresolved emissions/setback issues.
- Item 5 (1301 Roosevelt Avenue): The commission recommended denial of a rezoning to allow a bar after extended public comment emphasizing crime, parking and heritage‑area concerns.
Several items will go to city council within six months. Commissioners asked staff to verify technical conditions (water recapture, noise mitigation, buffer plans and inspection histories) before council submission where applicable.
