Pacific council approves consent agenda, forwards utility tax and rate ordinances to April 28
Summary
The Pacific City Council approved a six-item consent agenda and, by council consensus, forwarded two utility-related ordinances to final reading on April 28. Council and staff also reported on state tax prospects, local events and a May 1 fire station groundbreaking.
Mayor Kave called the City of Pacific’s regular council meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. on April 14, 2025, and the council completed routine business in a meeting that lasted about 19 minutes.
The council excused the absence of Councilmember Boles after a motion by Council Member Katie Garberding, seconded by Council Member Mann; a voice vote carried 6-0. The agenda was approved by voice vote, 6-0.
On a roll-call vote the council approved a consent agenda that included claims and payroll vouchers for late March and early April, approval of March 24 meeting minutes, Resolution 2025-986 (disposal of surplus city personal property) and Resolution 2025-988 (Seattle & Cedar Change Order #5). Council Member Putnam moved to approve the consent agenda; Council Member Helms seconded. The roll-call vote recorded six ayes and the motion carried 6-0.
During staff reports Mayor Kave said the state legislature appears to be considering tax increases rather than cuts and reminded prospective candidates that documents to run for re-election must be resubmitted in the first week of May. Council Member Helms clarified that the city’s Easter Egg Hunt is being sponsored by Pacific Partnerships and not the City of Pacific. Councilmember Petersen reported the city is negotiating with Comcast and suggested Starlink as another option.
The council held first readings of AB25-104a (Ordinance 2025-2102), which would set utility business tax rates, and AB25-105a (Ordinance 2025-2103), which would set utility rates for 2025–2027. By council consensus both items were forwarded to the April 28, 2025 meeting for final reading.
In committee and agency updates, Council President Kerry Garberding said the Sound Cities Association discussed a park levy with King County at its April 9 meeting; the South County Area Transportation Board is scheduled to meet April 15; and Valley Regional Fire Authority’s Station 36 groundbreaking is set for May 1 at 3:00 p.m. Garberding also thanked councilmembers and Inslee Best for donations to the Terry Home Auction and provided an event update.
Mayor Kave adjourned the meeting at 6:19 p.m.
