Great River Energy outlines easements across Crow Wing County for Northland Reliability Project

Cody Dirks, senior field representative leading right‑of‑way and real estate for the project, said phase‑one construction is underway and phase two is being prepared for construction later this year. He walked commissioners through a packet that breaks county parcels into labeled sections (A–H), shows section/township locations (including near Bear Lake and Spruce Lake) and lists acreage and appraised easement values.
Dirks said the project team has begun exercising options on previously negotiated easements, completed appraisals for affected parcels, and will present surveyed exhibits and appraisal materials to the county attorney and staff. Board members asked for copies of valuation sheets not included in the packet and Dirks said he would provide them.
Why it matters: the project crosses county‑owned lands in phases two and three and will require negotiated easements, appraisals and coordination with county roads and forest access for construction. Dirks said he would continue detailed coordination with county staff on construction access and exhibit review.
What’s next: Dirks said he expects to return with more detailed design material and surveyed easement exhibits and to continue meetings with county staff to finalize required paperwork before construction activity advances.
