Parker parks committee hears update on Pop Harvey playset grant and capital plans

A committee member told the Parker Parks and Recreation Committee at its meeting that staff are waiting on the Pop Harvey playset grant agreement and that planned capital work could be reduced as the FY25 budget is finalized.
"They're still waiting for the Pop Harvey playset grant agreement to come in," the committee member said, citing an email from Mickey Rogers at Arizona State Parks. The member said Director Steve is attending a professional conference and that staff have been reassigned to storm cleanup, delaying some regular maintenance work.
The committee member said the draft FY25 capital plan includes relocating the Pop Harvey basketball court to 9th and Navajo to make room for new playground equipment, but cautioned the relocation "may end up on the chopping block" as budget decisions are finalized. No firm timeline for the grant agreement was provided during the meeting.
Committee members asked staff to follow up on the pending grant and capital-plan details when Director Steve returns from the conference. The committee will revisit the playground and relocation plans in a future meeting; the next committee meeting is scheduled for July 15.
The update combined staff operational notes (storm cleanup and lawn mowing schedules) with the grant status and a preliminary capital-project placement; members did not take formal action on the Pop Harvey grant at the meeting.
