Union City approves Renaissance grants and tax exonerations; ambulance loan repaid

At its June 25 meeting, Union City Borough Council approved recommended Renaissance Grant awards and passed two resolutions to exonerate taxes on properties the Erie County Land Bank purchased.
Borough Manager Cindy Wells reported receipt of an ECGRA Renaissance Grant for $100,000 and said six Renaissance Grant applications totaling $27,127.65 were received. Council recommended approving four applications totaling $17,675 for the 2023/2024 grant period and carrying two applications totaling $9,452.65 into the 2024/2025 period; Councilor Joyce moved and Councilor Osborn seconded approval, and the motion carried unanimously.
The council also passed two resolutions to exonerate taxes on 11 Maple Street and 48 Atlantic Street to facilitate Erie County Land Bank purchases (motion by Councilor Joyce, seconded by Councilor Steadman). In related financial reporting, Borough Manager Wells said the Union City Volunteer Fire Department repaid its full ambulance loan of $59,250 to the borough.
Council did not record additional conditions on grant recipients in the minutes; staff will carry the two deferred grant applications forward to the next grant cycle.
