Union City Borough Council approved several finance and public-works items related to 2024 roadwork at its June 25 meeting.
Council voted to pay an invoice from Cross Paving totaling $104,740.81, with $92,130.00 to be disbursed from Liquid Fuels funds and $12,610.81 from the General Fund after a motion by Councilor Steadman and second by Councilor Kerns; the motion carried unanimously. Separately, council approved applying $15,625 in County Aid funds toward a payment to Suit-Kote for the 2024 seal coat project (motion by Councilor Joyce; second by Councilor Osborn).
The council discussed reuse of millings from the paving project and approved providing 2–3 loads of ground millings to the American Legion ballfield; Union Township agreed to truck and grind material and will track material usage. Streets Supervisor Bob Phillips reported Cross Paving and Suit-Kote finished the 2024 paving work and said catch basin repairs and mowing are ongoing.
On municipal funds, council approved opening a new PLGIT Checking & Prime account and transferring approximately $140,000 (majority of the capital equipment funds) from the borough’s Northwest accounts to receive a higher interest rate; the transfer was authorized by motion from Councilor Kerns and seconded by Councilor Steadman. Council also approved posting removed playground equipment from Southwest Park on Municibid for sale.
All motions in this package were carried unanimously by the councilors present.
