He emphasized that chassis availability and custom cab production can add 8–12 months or more to delivery schedules and that truck prices have risen sharply in recent years.
Committee members asked whether the current annual capital-reserve contribution (discussed in testimony as roughly $75,000) will be adequate. They also pressed for details about a private trust (referred to in the meeting as a local ‘set/Samson’ trust) that has historically provided matching funds for grant-backed equipment purchases. The chief said trustees set spending rules and that the fund has been used for grant matches and for equipment purchases—examples given included SCBA sets and a fill station.
What comes next: the committee carried the fire budget to the warrant but asked the fire chief to provide a capital-reserve plan that reflects current cost assumptions and replacement timelines.
