Chief Robert Evans delivered the Douglass Township Police Department’s April report on May 19, saying the department logged 802 calls for service, including 88 traffic citations and two criminal arrests, and collected 39 pounds of medications during the DEA Drug Take Back event on April 26.
"We collected 39 pounds during the collection day," Chief Robert Evans said, and noted the department’s Med Box remains available at the Township Building during business hours.
Evans described community outreach and training: police partnered with Gilbertsville Elementary School for a Police Day event, Mission Kids CAC provided a cyberbullying presentation for fifth-grade students, and the department hosted an on-scene traffic collision course attended by 21 area officers. Officer Delaney completed an 80-hour On-Scene and Homicide by Vehicle Collision Investigation course and is pursuing additional certification to become an Accident Reconstructionist.
The Board approved a new badge design presented by Chief Evans. Stouch moved and the Board approved the design (Bergstresser-Aye, Stouch-Aye, Carpenter-Aye). Evans also noted the department recently purchased an electric patrol vehicle to be outfitted and lettered for mid-June/July; he said sergeants will initially drive the EV and the department is exploring leasing a second EV for detective use.
The Board accepted the Police Department report as presented.
